What do people do on Eid?
Eid is one of the two major holidays for muslims. On Eid, people celebrate the end of the month of ramadan. People also dress really loud, meaning they wear clothes that are really fancy and pretty. Muslims visit each other’s houses and meet each other. When people come to each other’s house they sit and eat snacks, sometimes even food. And by the end of the meeting/greeting they give little kids money. Money can be from one dollar to however much they want, usually it stops around $100. Kids get really happy when they receive the money, because it brings them a lot of joy/ happiness.
Assumptions about Eid
Many people assume a lot of things about Eid that are completely wrong or somewhat wrong. The first thing that many people get wrong is that “kids get money as a reward because they fasted during Ramadan” This is totally wrong! The first thing is that most kids don’t even fast, and the second thing is that money is not given away because they fast, it is just a tradition that came from saudi arabia that many people follow. The other thing that some people get wrong is that, “we don’t cut the animal on both Eid” This is something that only a few people are confused about. Muslims cut an animal only on the second Eid that occurs after the first Eid.
History
According to History’s article “Eid al-Fitr”, Though some Muslims view other special days over the years, as well as the beginning of the new year following the Islamic calendar and the day that the Prophet Mohammad (“Festival of Sacrifice”)takes place at the end of the annual pilgrimage season. The Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar, in which dates are calculated based on the lunar phases. Each new month begins when the waxing crescent moon appears in the sky. Since the lunar calendar is 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar, Islamic months and holidays can have different dates every year
