Preparing for Prom: a how-to guide

Preparing for Prom

Intro
Now that we are finally in the 3rd Quarter, it’s that time of the year that all Juniors and Seniors fear. Stress is high and tears have been shared, now that Prom is approaching. There are many reasons to be unsure about the future, but one thing is for sure, no matter how much time you spend planning for prom something will always go wrong. What could you expect when you are planning a full day of activities with a group of 6-12 people? But Don’t sweat it because I have a few tips on what you can do to plan your day. Everything from where you need to buy your outfit to where you can eat, I’ve got you covered with a list of places to cater to your needs.

Dress and Suit
HoneyBee Bridal (Great dresses for a fair price)
RSVP PROM (a little too pricey for me)
Shop online (Best option)
Personally, I think spending 500 dollars on a dress or suit is preposterous. Prom is only one night, and you will only wear that dress for approximately 8 hours, so spending that much on a dress you’ll only wear once is unnecessary. Do not let yourself get pressured into spending 500+ on an outfit. Most companies only jack up the prices because they know that students are desperate to get high-quality outfits. Instead, consider shopping online, though some people don’t trust dresses online, I think that if you do enough research and find a variety of websites, you will be able to find cheaper dresses with great quality.

Food
Drunken Noodles($)
Red Lobster($$)
Doolittles($$$)
Porter Creek($$$)
Most people think that food isn’t that important when it comes to Prom, but I’d beg to differ. The stress that comes with planning your activities during prom will make you hungry and if you choose a place with bad food, your entire day is ruined. You might as well just go home. So choosing the wrong place to each will leave you feeling sad. It is best to choose somewhere that has consistently makes good food regardless of how busy they are. Drunken Noodles is a great option for those who dont want to spend too much money and want an informal environment. Another place i’d suggest is Doolittles, the food there is spectacular, it has a formal setting, and the portions are huge. Somewhere I would not recommended is Olive Garden, The food is “okay”, the service is good depending on how busy it is, and the environment is chaotic. Some people may disagree with me, but for the most part, everyone can agree that Olive Garden isn’t none for having the best anything in town.

Where to take photos: list of 3-5
Downtown
Plains Art Museum
Lions Conservatory Park

There are hundreds of places you can take photos, the most important thing to consider when deciding where to go is lighting! For your photos to look good, your space needs to be well lit by the sun. Whether you are taking them inside or outside, you should consider the amount of sunlight you will be exposed to. This is why I’d suggest taking photos outside. Places such as Lion’s Converancy Park and Downtown are your best option. But if you dont want to take your photos outside, the Plains Art Museum is a great place to take photos!
How stressful has it been?

Conclusion
With all these tips, you are now prepared to take on April 20th! There is no surefire way to make sure your prom goes seamlessly (besides planning for everything that could go wrong). But if you have a sense of what you need to do, you can increase your chances of having a fun time that day. Just remember to communicate with your group, focus on what’s important, and keep calm. The whole point of Prom is to carry out an American tradition that promotes school spirit and allows students to take their minds off of other stressors such as homework and planning for college. So don’t overcomplicate things!
