Under the flashing lights coming from the DJ, a sea of elegant gowns and sharp tuxedos converges on the dance floor, swaying to the rhythm of heartbeats and harmonies. It’s prom night – the culmination of high school dreams, a tapestry of anticipation and nostalgia woven into every delicate corsage and awkward photograph. In the air, a cocktail of perfume and possibility mingles as students step into a night that promises to etch memories into the corners of their youth. A night where for a fleeting moment, the world is awash with the magic of glamor and youthful exuberance. Teens coming together for that movie magic moment to dance and sing together, but wait, what song are they playing?
The music at prom has been a controversial debate amongst the students of Davies High. Some who have attended previous dances say the music has been repetitive and become almost uninteresting to dance to. Some like the repetitiveness, and the reassurance that they know the songs and lyrics to be able to sing and dance to. While these opinions have been stated, others have commented on the lovableness of the music. Many students have stated that the music is outdated and would rather have modern music played. Others say they love the songs and the nostalgic feeling they bring to the dance.
This month, the Davies Talon sent out a school-wide poll to discuss the turmoil with prom music. Here is what the students had to say:
